Reports abound Monday evening that the Rangers have signed veteran closer Joe Nathan. It is a two-year contract with a team option for a third year. The 37 year old Nathan is the Minnesota Twins’ all time saves leader. He missed 2010 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He shared the closer role with Matt Capps in 2011, when he recorded 14 saves in 17 opportunities. His record was 2-1 with a 4.84 ERA.
In 11 years with the Giants and Twins, he has 261 saves and a 2.87 ERA.
Neftali Feliz, the Rangers’ closer in 2010 and 2011 will be moved to the starting rotation.
