1. On Monday, Texas has exercised the team’s option on Colby Lewis for the 2012 season. Lewis, who turned 32 during the season, will earn $3.25 million next season. He was 14-10, 4.40 in 32 2011 starts. He was even better in the post season going 1-1, 3.04 in four starts. In the last two years with the Rangers, he has a 26-23 regular season record, having pitched more than 200 innings in each season.
2. Texas also exercised the team’s $1,000,000 option on 35 year-old reliever Yoshinori Tateyama. The side-arming right hander was 2-0, 4.50 with one save in 39 games during the regular season, and appeared in one post season game against the Tigers retiring two batters and allowing a hit. His contract also has a team option for 2013.
3. Tuesday night, Adrian Beltre received the Gold Glove Award as the outstanding defensive third baseman in the American League. He also won the award in 2007 and 2008 while a member of the Seattle Mariners. He committed just 11 errors during the regular season. Tampa Bay’s Evan Longoria and Boston’s Kevin Youkilis were the other finalists for the award.
