Texas beat Los Angeles 3-1 Wednesday night to claim the number two seed in the playoffs. Texas will play Tampa Bay Friday afternoon at 4:07 CDT. Texas finished the season with six consecutive wins and a franchise record 96 wins.
Mike Napoli clubbed a pair of home runs (29 and 30), the second in the ninth inning with a man aboard, which broke a 1-1 tie. Mike Adams (5-4, 1.47) pitched a scoreless eighth inning to earn the win. Neftali Feliz faced four batters in the ninth, two of whom struck out, to record three outs and his 32nd save of the year.
Boston lost to Baltimore 4-3, when the Orioles rallied for two ninth inning runs off Boston closer Jonathan Papelbon. Tampa Bay then beat New York 8-7 in twelve innings with a walk-off Evan Longoria home run to claim the Wild Card slot in the playoffs. It was Longoria’s second home run of the evening. The Rays once trailed in this game 7-0, and were one strike away from losing, when Dan Johnson homered to tie the game and send it to extra innings. The Rays came all the way back to take the win and the playoff berth.
